Fresh Android Apps for June 7: Fooducate, X-Men, Happy Vikings

What’s your food IQ? Sure, you know how to read labels but do you know what all those multisyllabic ingredients really are? Do you know how the products you purchase compare against others health-wise? If you want to get a little smarter about food, check out Fooducate.
While you wait in line to see X-Men: First Class, occupy your mutant mind with X-Men for Android or Happy Vikings.

Fooducate (Free)

You are what you eat, so learn more about the stuff you put into your mouth with Fooducate.
Scan the UPC code from any food item using your phone’s camera and this app will look it up in a database of over 200,000 items. It spits back the warnings about the less-than-healthy aspects of your groceries including trans fat and high fructose corn syrup content, confusing serving sizes, controversial food colorings, and much more.
Perhaps the best aspect of the app is that it rates the items you scan against other products in the same category with easy-to-read bar charts.

X-Men ($2.99)

X-Men: First Class is blasting up the box office but you can join the fight over your Android phone.
Choose who you want to be among the classic characters including Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, or Dazzler. Then team up to fight infamous villains such as Pyro, Nimrod, The White Queen, Juggernaut, Mystique, and the arch-nemesis of the X-Men, Magneto.
Your hero team can be made up of your friends using the Wi-Fi multiplayer feature of the game. Use OpenFeint to share your achievements and entice others to play.

Happy Vikings ($1.44)

Some Vikings are angry and some just want to have fun.
This game’s main character opts for fun-loving good times – he just wants to stack up all the booty from a recent raid of a port town. The action combines platform play (as he jumps from stack to stack avoiding hanging ropes and such) with Bejeweled-style matching (line up three of a kind treasure chests, gunpowder barrels, or other spoils and they’ll disappear in a cloud of smoke but leave extra points behind).
